Nomination/Selection Process

  1. A high school senior counselor, school administrator, varsity coach or extracurricular program director/moderator, or the student him/herself registers on the www.texasscholaraward.com website (if you registered in previous years your registration/password is still valid). If you forget your password, click on the “Forgot my password” link and we will immediately send an email with your password to your registered email address.
  2. When the full nomination application has been completed, the high school senior counselor or school administrator officially “submits” the nomination for students that they feel are qualified. All nominations that are not officially “submitted” by the appropriate senior counselor or senior administrator are excluded from consideration for a Texas Scholar Award®.
  3. Candidates are reviewed on a rolling basis during the course of the year (applications accepted from September 4, 2012 through March 1, 2013) and Texas Scholars will be selected in five classes (see Program Milestones for details). Counselors can request an update to a nomination that was previously submitted by contacting the TSA Program Support Center at 855.696.1122. All applications for nomination are considered final on March 1, 2013.
  4. Nominations are evaluated and selected independently by the selection panel of the Texas Scholar Award Program Administrator without regard to race, creed, gender, geographic location, or financial need.
  5. The High School Senior Counselors that are associated with the students who are selected for a Texas Scholar Award® are contacted by the Program Administrator for confirmation of the nomination information.
  6. Upon validation, the student becomes a 2013 State Farm® Texas Scholar and the student and his/her parents/guardians are notified, via email, by the TSA Program Administrator.
  7. On March 22, 2013 all fifty State Farm® Texas Scholars will be invited (via email) to compete for the 4 top awards. All fifty students and their counselors will receive information regarding the essay topic and evaluation criteria for the final selection (students will be invited to submit additional letters of recommendation).
  8. The essay topic changes each year and will be kept confidential until it is given to the recipients to insure that all fifty contestants receive the same opportunity to prepare their response. All essays and materials are due on April 15, 2013.
  9. The selection of the Honorable Mention students will be announced on April 1, 2013.
  10. The selection of the three SilverSilver Medalists and the SilverGold Medalist will be announced on May 1, 2013.
