Other Responsibilities

  • Each selected student must provide his/her Social Security Number, and an IRS Form 1099 will be filed with the Internal Revenue Service at the end of the fiscal year (copy will be sent to the student in January 2014). The Awardee is responsible for any taxes that might be applicable.
  • Each student over the age of 18 (or, if under the age of 18, his/her parent/guardian) will be required to complete and sign an Authorization & Release to permit TSA to post his/her photo on the Texas Scholar Award website and other web pages (such as Facebook and YouTube), and to include it in press releases sent to legislators as well as local and statewide media.
  • If the Texas Scholar Award Awardee participates in sanctioned sports at the university/college level, he/she is responsible for reporting the award to the NCAA Compliance Officer at his/her institution. In those cases where an Awardee has participated in NCAA sports, the Texas Scholar Award Scholarship has been accepted (in some cases the award amount has been applied against the total amount of financial aid received by the student in his/her Freshman Year) as being in compliance (for eligibility of participation) with Section 15.2.6.4 (Athletics Participation as a Major Criterion) of the NCAA Divisions I, II and III legislation. The Texas Scholar Award Support Center will provide the requisite statement to the NCAA Compliance Officer when requested by the Awardee.
